I picked this song because I used to play jump rope when I was younger and we used to play a game where you swung the jump rope round in a circle and everyone else would jump over it. But we would sing “1 o’clock, 2 o’clock, 3 o’clock 4 o’clock rock….” and on and on until someone messed up and then they had to do something depending on what number it was, but I don’t remember the punishments.
This song came out when MTV was becoming really popular. Which makes sense because this is a dance song that anyone can get up and dance to. This was also the time period a little bit after the war and everyone is trying to get the music business off the ground again. This song doesn’t really have a story behind it but it had a good beat and rhythm. This song makes me very happy and gives me the feeling to get up and dance in whatever way I want. The instruments in the background helped give this feeling. It was a little annoying because it said mostly the same words the whole time. But the instruments in the back (I couldn’t identify them) did a good job at complimenting the performer.
My favorite part of the song was the instruments in the back. At some points I couldn’t really understand what he was saying so the instruments in the back made the song really enjoyable. My least favorite part was his voice. I wasn’t really impressed by it and he wasn’t that good. I didn’t find anything controversial because it was a pretty generic song as far as the lyrics go. It did not have anything to do with my favorite genre but it did have a good beat and that's what I look for when I like a song or not. It fit into the listening theme of music because it is a song everyone wants to listen to and makes everyone happy inside. The target audience must have been younger people. Because it was more of a dancing song and back in the 1950’s is when women started breaking away from traditional jobs in the home and liked to have fun too. Therefore, the audience must have been younger people who wanted to have fun. I mean if this song was playing I would definitely be attracted to wherever it was being played.
The song was repetitive, listening to it over and over again can get a bit annoying. But it serves it purpose to be a fun dance song and hype you up. All the instruments make up the song for sure, imagine only hearing the lyrics. That would be awful. Thank you for sharing your childhood story.
ReplyDeleteI really love this song as well. I used to listen to it a lot as a kid as well. My baby sitter from when I was like 6 would play the song for us and we would all dance to it. The song has a fun but repetitive tune to it but that doesn't make it bad.
ReplyDeleteThis song is so nice and exciting! The first part "1 o'clock, 2 o'clock, 3 o'clock 4 o'clock..."I'm particularly excited. It is very simple but it is melody and lyrics that will remain in memory for a long time. I think it's only natural to remember these exciting songs since you were little!
