“The Sun Didn't Shine” By: Golden Gate Quartet (week 4)

I honestly don’t know why I picked this song, but I was not disappointed. This song is a Christian song about the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. They are explaining how the sun didn’t shine on the mountain where the lord was being hung and dying. I had to look up the lyrics because I couldn’t completely understand what they were saying. But the lyrics really went with the melody and the beat of the song, when you think of a christian song, this is the melody that everyone's mind usually turns to.  I am a Christian, so I can relate to this song on a personal level. So the emotions that I got out were happiness that the events happened but also sadness because they are talking about how Jesus was crucified. The year this song came out was really big for Christians, Jimmy Carter was elected as president. He was a self-proclaimed “the born again” christian leader. This is when songs like this were really popular. This song is very christian and anyone can tell that by just listening t...

“I Got Rhythm” By: George/Ira Gershwin (week 3)

I chose this song because my dad had made me listen to it one day and the title stuck with me because it was really weird. My dad also made me watch the 1951 musical, “An American in Paris,” which I mean I wasn’t mad but also it was interesting compared to the musicals we have now. If anyone knows my dad, this is definitely a song he would like.  I really enjoyed this song when I actually listened to it and thought about what the lyrics were saying. This song is very happy and did not have a sad moment. The beat was very uplifting and not slow and dreary. It was all about this person having “the rhythm” then it goes on about all the things that she has and how happy she is. At the end of every verse they say “Who could ask for anything more?” Which is true because if someone is happy where they are and with their life, how could they want anything more? The lyrics make you feel like your life is very happy after thinking about what you have and the music goes right along with ...

"After the Ball" by: Charles K. Harris (week 2)

This song was really interesting to me. It told a story from beginning to end. It was all about an Uncle that lives alone and was asked by a child why he was single and did not have a family. He continued to tell the child that he used to be in love and then he went to a ball with her. During the ball, he goes to get a drink to bring back to her, and when he gets back she is dancing and kissing another man. Then comes in the title of the song; after the ball, he loses his sweetheart and his heart is broken. While listening to this song, I thought about my childhood. The song made me think of Cinderella at first but as the song went on I felt sad and disappointed. I wanted it to end in "happily ever after" but only ended with the man not getting a princess. This song makes me feel discouraged because he is explaining that love is not really real and that everything can change so fast. The music and the lyrics really connect because the sounds made me feel like I was in a ...
